The Ketamine Research Foundation (KRF), led by Dr. Phil Wolfson, has published a guide of interest to the entire community. Once again, the KRF reinstates its leadership in the field of mental health, psychological wellbeing and ketamine-assisted therapy. Phil Wolfson, a pioneer of Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) and early and ongoing studies with MDMA, contributed to our first training for health professionals in 2024, during which he kindly agreed to conduct these interviews.

One of KRF’s most recent publications is a new guide for the safe and ethical use of ketamine. This document is essential to ensure that both healthcare professionals and users can integrate ketamine responsibly into therapeutic treatment. The guide covers three main areas:

  1. Safe Personal Use: The guide provides tools to minimize risks when using ketamine outside of clinical settings. Recommendations include emotional and mental preparation before use, the risks associated with recreational or decontextualized use, and how to integrate the experience for healthy personal growth.
  2. Clinical Use in Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP): Aimed at mental health professionals, this section establishes a structured framework for Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy. It includes guidelines on patient selection, preparatory interviews, therapeutic accompaniment during sessions, and post-session integration processes that are fundamental to the success of this treatment. KRF aims to ensure that professionals are equipped with the tools necessary to provide ethical and effective therapy.
  3. Professional Ethical Code (KPA): The guide concludes with an ethical code developed by the Ketamine Psychotherapy Associates (KPA), which outlines key principles for ethical practice. The code focuses on respect for patient autonomy, the importance of informed consent, and clinical responsibility. It highlights the need for therapists to act with empathy, integrity, and professionalism throughout the therapeutic process.

In addition to research, the KRF places great emphasis on the training of professionals. The foundation offers the best KAP training programmes available in the USA, and this year is once again collaborating with Synaptica Clinic to offer a new training in Europe. Our annual training on Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy gathers all the new scientific updates in the world of psychedelic psychotherapy and covers everything necessary for the KAP process, such as the preparation of the patients, the accompaniment during the sessions and the subsequent integration processes that are crucial for the success of the treatment.

In conclusion, the Ketamine Research Foundation is not only leading the way in the research and therapeutic application of ketamine, but also setting clear and responsible standards for its ethical and safe use. Through its new guide, the KRF offers an invaluable tool for both professionals and personal users, promoting informed practices that prioritize the well-being, safety and integrity of the therapeutic process. Its educational, formative and ethical work reinforces the foundation’s commitment to a future where psychedelic therapies are accessible, effective and deeply humane.
